This essay is a close analysis of ‘Love Among the Ruins’
‘Confessions’ and ‘My Last Duchess’.
Description
Check out my introduction….
Whilst we can accept the confessions of a dying man who has erred, the same cannot be said of a Duke whose revelations to an unnamed listener, evoke alarm. More ambivalently, the evocative reflection on the centrality of love to human experience is a reminder to listeners that Browning’s romantic espousal of the power of human emotion to transcend the physical and temporal boundaries of ‘centuries of folly’ can illuminate and enrich human experience rather than corrupt and destroy it.
